
Gary William Riley, 79, of Gaithersburg, Maryland passed away on Friday, August 7th, 2026 at his residence. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 29th, 1947, he was a the son of the late William Arthur Riley Sr. and Virginia Louise Riley-Thomas.
He was an auto salesman with the Ford Motor Company for 30 years, and a bus driver with Montgomery County Public Schools for 12 years. He was a sports enthusiast and a lover of country and classical music. He made sure never to miss a Baltimore Orioles, Washington Commanders or Washington Capitals game. He enjoyed watching old western movies, Armageddon, Pirates of the Caribbean and Wizard of Oz. He enjoyed going out to dinner with his friends and family, and never turned down dessert at Bruster’s. He loved spending time with his family, saying hi to his neighbors, bird watching and watering the flowers on his front porch. These simple things in life brought him joy.
Gary is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary W. Riley and their children Michael Plakas and Katherine Riley and grandpup Brees Riley; sister Bonnie Riley-Silbert, brother Robert Eugene Riley, brother Richard Franklin Riley, sister-in-law Linda Faller Riley, brother-in-law Robert A Wasilewski, sister-in-law Julie Pew Wasilewski, and many nieces and nephews.
Gary was a brother to the late William Arthur Riley Jr., James Wayne Riley, and Patrick Michael Riley.
A memorial service will be held at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Dr., Gaithersburg, Maryland on Friday, August 14th, 2026 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at their family home following the memorial service at 3:30 p.m.
