Ghislaine Clarke, a recent resident of Kensington Park Senior Living, passed away on July 19, 2021. She was 94 years old.
Ghislaine was a long-time resident of Glover Park, living at the Colonnade for over two decades and The Westchester prior to that. She thoroughly enjoyed volunteering in the community, including at the International Student House, Welcome to Washington, the Georgetown Public Library, and Glover Park Village. In doing so, she made many friends whom she cherished greatly.
She was born in Brussels, Belgium, where she lived most of her life until her marriage to Ralph Evers at age 31 in London. She lived in France for five years, where her daughters were born. The family moved to New York in 1964, where she worked as a librarian at a private girl’s school. She later earned her Master’s of Social Work from Columbia University and worked as a social worker in Connecticut and New York. Subsequently, she got married a second time to John Arthur Clarke, living in Connecticut for a number of years. In the late 1980s, she moved to Washington, DC to be close to her daughters.
She loved to travel, taking her daughters to Europe most summers while they were growing up to visit family and to see and learn about other cultures. She was an avid tennis player, a gourmet cook, a book enthusiast, a fan of French documentaries, and an art lover. She was a wonderful mother and a devoted grandmother, who will be greatly missed. Her legacy will live on through all of us.
Ghislaine is survived by her two daughters, Carol (Evers) Robbins and Patricia Evers; her sons-in-law, Gar Robbins and Thomas Korb; her four grandchildren, Kristen Korb and Andrew Korb, and Kathryn Robbins and Andrew Robbins; and her three nieces, Isabelle Versé, Fabienne Versé, and Geneviève Versé. She was preceded in death by her sister, Christine Versé; and her brother and sister-in-law Jacques and Françoise Versé.
A Memorial Service for Ghislaine Clarke will be held at DeVol Funeral Home in Washington, DC on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm. She will be interred at the Holy Trinity Columbarium at Holy Rood Cemetery in Washington, DC.
