Irma Cabrera

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Irma Esperanza Cabrera who entered into the presence of her Lord on June 30, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on August 1, 1953, in Guatemala to Federico Gonzalez and Marta Gonzalez Reyes.

Above all else, Irma was a woman of faith. Her love for God and trust in Jesus Christ guided her life. She believed in the power of prayer and the importance of serving others with love.

At a young age, following the passing of her father and her mother's immigration to the United States, Irma took on the responsibility of helping raise her younger siblings. That spirit of care never left her. Throughout her life, she lovingly cared for her siblings, her mother, her brother, her husband, her children, grandchildren, extended family, and many children entrusted to her care as a motherly caregiver.

One of the ways she expressed that love most beautifully was through cooking. She was an extraordinary chef whose kitchen was always filled with the aromas of homemade Guatemalan favorites, including her beloved tamales, chuchitos, and pepián. Every meal she prepared was made from scratch and served with intention. She remembered each person's favorite dish and found joy in preparing it, believing that feeding someone was one of the greatest expressions of love.

She also had a special gift for nurturing flowers and plants, especially her cherished orchids, filling her home with beauty and life.

More than anything, Irma loved being surrounded by her family. Holidays, birthdays, and especially Mother's Day brought her tremendous joy. Nothing made her smile more than seeing the people she loved gathered together. She had a remarkable ability to make each person feel seen, welcomed, and valued. Whether sharing a meal, teaching someone to cook, helping a child learn Spanish, or simply offering a warm embrace, she gave people her full attention and made them feel at home.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Miguel Angel Cabrera; her beloved children, Claudia Yolanda Barillas, Miguel Eduardo Cabrera, Sergio Ivan Cabrera (Marizabel Cabrera), and Angel Josue Cabrera (Lindsay Cabrera); her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

While our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in the assurance that she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her faith, generosity, and love.

A visitation will be held at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Dr., Gaithersburg, MD 20877, on July 8, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A committal service will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park and Menorah Gardens, 12800 Veirs Mill RD, Rockville, MD 20853, on July 8, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
