Jane Hatch died on March 15, 2025, at the age of 73 after a struggle with cancer. She was born in New York and spent her early childhood in New Jersey, but lived most of her life in Montgomery County, Maryland. She graduated from Churchill High School in 1969. Jane was a resident of Montgomery Village for over forty years and to which she made innumerable contributions. In the last few years, she enjoyed a warm community in the Fallsgrove section of Rockville.
Jane spent her early worklife primarily in various jobs in the electronics and computer industries but in mid-life made the decision to go back to school, starting at Montgomery College and getting her degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She then earned a Masters Degree from the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management and spent the rest of her professional career and civic life fighting for causes and candidates that mattered. Jane was formidable; whether in her professional life or her personal life, if you had her on your side, you knew there was a cool and competent force at your back. Her many friends, family, and colleagues counted on that.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Neil Lerner, her brothers Charles (Lynn) and Andy Hatch, sister Faith (Scott) McIntyre, and numerous loving cousins and other family with which she was close.
Jane was a big and bright personality. She was fun, loved animals, was a devoted genealogist, enjoyed travel, and served as a great contributor to her community. She was a tireless researcher and problem solver when facing an issue and somehow suddenly knew more than you could imagine about veterinary care, plumbing, health issues, family history, travel, zoning, arborculture, or something else out of the blue. She was a delight of surprises.
