Jason Ramon Caballero passed away, suddenly, on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the age of 45. He was born in Austin, Texas where he spent much of his youth after school at his grandfather’s tailor shop, Ace Custom Tailors. He not only learned sewing skills, but magic too. His grandfather, Ramon Galindo, was a renowned magician and sought-after tailor. Jason won awards as a child magician, winning the top state award at the age of 10 and later recognized by Siegfried and Roy, Lance Burton, and others as one of the top ten teenage performers in the country. As a teen, Jason spent years as a counselor, as well as a manager at the Fantastic Magic Camp in Austin.
After graduating from Pflugerville High School, he attended McLennan Community College in Waco. He later graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. He earned a degree in Stage Management, and Design & Production. This degree led him to a job at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, GA. Shortly thereafter he was awarded the Kenan fellowship at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in Washington, DC. After the fellowship, he worked a short gig at the Adventure Theatre in Glen Echo, MD, working on a performance of “Goodnight Moon” – that stage production is where he met the love of his life, actress and vocalist, Jennifer Timberlake. That meeting with Jennifer kept him in the DC area. He worked for ten years at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre as both a stage manager and carpenter; building sets for the shows. In 2017, he moved to Imagination Stage, closer to his home in Bethesda, MD as the Assistant Technical Director. When the pandemic hit and theaters across the world closed, he was forced to find different employment. A new profession easily emerged when he began working at Case Design. There, he developed new skills as a craftsman building homes. Within a few years he moved up quickly and fell in love with the job and his fellow craftsmen. His skills as a camp manager, seamster and magician made him a quick-study and he was well-liked by all.
Jason got along well with everyone he met. He had a giving heart and didn’t hesitate to teach others his skills and would help anyone at any time. He loved his Harley Davidson, Jerry Seinfeld, and The Three Stooges. He enjoyed all music, but especially good Blues. Jason was always the life-of-the-party with his jokes that kept everyone laughing. He loved his family the most.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer Timberlake; his parents Josie and Jim Caballero, sister Julie Tolleson (Blake), sister Jennifer Belcik (Matthew), nieces Taylor Tolleson, Avery Tolleson Harmer (Brad), nephew and niece Nolan and Rhys Belcik, mother-in-law and father-in-law Jill and Bill Timberlake, brother-in-law Travis Timberlake (Jessica) and nephew and niece Jackson and Talia Timberlake.
