

John Edward Flynn, Jr., age 90, passed away on January 3, 2025, in Rockville, MD, after a long battle with cancer. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, John will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for his devoted and caring nature and ability to befriend everyone he met.
Born on June 3, 1934, in Hempstead, New York, John grew up as the only son to John and Elise Flynn and brother to Kathy. After graduating from Hempstead High School, John entered the Navy where he proudly served from 1951 to 1956 on the USS Bexar. During this time, he also earned his Masters Degree from Lesley University Graduate School.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, John went on to start a family of his own and began his long career with the US Postal Service, where he worked for almost four decades in New York and Washington, DC. During this time, he also earned his Masters Degree from Lesley University Graduate School. He dedicated his career to helping others, helping design and implement the US Postal Service Program for Alcoholic Recovery (PAR) and the US Postal Service Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for all postal employees and their family members. John retired from the Post Office in 2006. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, cruising, attending the theater, being active in his church community, and visiting family whenever possible.
John’s spirit is carried on by his spouse, Sandy Flynn; children, Janeane (Thomas) LaMonte, Monroe, CT, John (Maria) Flynn III, Amherst, NH, Keven Flynn, Winchester NH, Kathleen (Erik) Crisman, Amherst NH, Jamie Flynn, Clarksburg, MD; grandchildren Katie (John) NeDeau, Emma Crisman, and Sophie Crisman from Amherst NH, Emily LaMonte, Monroe CT, Olivia LaMonte, Monroe CT, Tommy (Victoria) LaMonte, High Point NC, and John Flynn, Winchester NH; great-grandchildren Amelia “Millie” LaMonte and Clara LaMonte, High Point, NC and sister, Kathleen Tessitore.
John was preceded in death by his two grandchildren Kylie Crisman and Timothy Crisman, Amherst, NH.
To honor John’s memory, a service will be held at Mother Seton Parish, Maryland on January 10, 2025 from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by burial ceremony at All Souls Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, he and his family request that you donate to the American Cancer Society.
