John Gregory Hurley, Jr. (“Greg”) of Washington, DC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Born on May 20, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late John G. Hurley and Helen M. Gorris. Graduate of St. Anselm’s Abbey School, Georgetown University, and Georgetown University Law School. His career was devoted to federal service. He retired from the U.S. Customs Service in 1996. He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Estelle Marie McCann, and his brother, David G. Hurley. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Wingard, and by his children Sarah (Paul), Helen, Susannah, John (Cristina), Estelle (Mark), William, Victoria (Jose Pedro), Mary (Vincent), Christopher, Edward (Schere), Evelyn (Mark), Joseph, James (Katie), and David, and twenty grandchildren. Greg was a devout Catholic, and will always be remembered for his humor, patience, and kindness, as well as his abiding love of wildlife, the environment, classical music, and jazz. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann Church, Tenleytown; and burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring. Donations in Greg’s memory may be made to Forest Hills of DC.
