

Jorge was born in Tupiza, Potosi, a town in the Southern region of Bolivia, to a local woman of Quechua descent and an immigrant from Greece. He became a Methodist while attending boarding school in La Paz and went on to pursue divinity school. He obtained a masters from Facultad Evangélica de Teología (today ISEDET) in Buenos Aires, Argentina and a doctorate in theology from Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University in New York. Jorge devoted his life to the United Methodist Church, serving as pastor in Bolivia, Brazil, and Uruguay, as well as New York City, Washington D.C. and Colorado. Jorge also devoted his life to education, teaching at many institutions of higher education in the United States and Latin America. In addition, he served as the principal of a K-12 school for a decade. Throughout his life, he fought for justice and equality for all at a personal level as well as within the institutions for which he worked. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Fanny, his two children, Marcos and Irene, his four grandchildren, Gaia, Diego, Alexander and Karina, and his two great-grandchildren, Cedric and Sophie.
