Joseph Brandt

Joseph Brandt of Rockville, MD passed away on June 14, 2023, at the age of 78. He is survived by his children Kenneth Brandt (Katie), Rebecca Roy (Kevin), Allison Berdeguez (Mike) and Jessica Subin; grandchildren Joey Brandt, Emilia Roy, Asher & Charlotte Berdeguez; and brother Alan Brandt (Ethel).

Joe was born in New York City to Jacob and Frieda Brandt. He attended City College and American University, earning bachelors and masters degrees in mathematics and computer science. Joe moved to Maryland in 1968 and began his career in computers & technology at IBM in Mission Systems and later at Lockheed Martin. He retired as a well respected and loved manager of the Engineering Leadership Development Program (ELDP). After retirement Joe enjoyed traveling around the US and Europe with his wife Sandi, spending time with friends and family, and attending Osher classes at Johns Hopkins.

Joe was married to Ken and Becca’s beloved mother Ellen from 1968 until her passing in 1995. Joe was later married to Allison and Jess’s beloved mother Sandi from 2000 until her passing in 2019.

Joe loved people, traveling, history, politics, current events, music, and the Washington Nationals. He had a calm, easy going, upbeat personality. He was a wonderful father and husband, always level-headed and great at giving advice. He was kind, sweet, and funny, and cherished by family, friends, and co-workers. Joe will be missed dearly.

A funeral service will be held at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, 14321 Comus Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871 on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers or food, please consider making a donation in Joe’s name to the National Eye Institute where he volunteered for studies and research related to Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare eye disease he had since birth.
