On Thursday, February 9th, Karen Steinhauer, beloved wife and mother of 3 passed away at the age of 78. Karen was born in Portsmouth NH where she spent her early childhood with her parents Robert and Geraldine Twombly and her sister Donna. She moved with her family to Montgomery County Maryland where she later met and married her high school sweetheart. There Karen devoted her life as a homemaker and taking care of her three children until moving to Milford Delaware with her husband upon retirement. Karen spent her final few months at Sunrise of Silver Spring, Memory Care Facility.
Karen was a passionate gardener who amazed many with her ability to grow anything with her green thumb. During her time in her Rockville Maryland and Milford Delaware homes, the lawn gradually became abundant with beautiful gardens and koi ponds. The gardens had every kind of flower that would grow in our climate, blooming continuously in an abundance of colors. Known for her green thumb in the garden, her ability to grow anything continued onto her porch, deck and inside her house with many container plants. Karen was a resource to many neighbors and friends when there was a need to identify flowers and plants and how to take care of them. When she was not gardening, she was busy with home improvement projects and in her spare time she enjoyed playing cards with her friends
Karen was survived by her loving husband Robert, her three children, Robert (Teresa) Steinhauer, Jr, Kim (Tracey) Reed and Christopher (Adrienne) Steinhauer, as well as her adored grandchildren Blake (Jennifer), Chase and Kyle and great granddaughter Aubrey.
The family will hold a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to the The Alzheimers Association.
