Kathleen Moore Prytherch, 82, passed away peacefully in Gaithersburg, Maryland on January 2, 2025. She was born on November 21, 1943 in Rochester, New York to the late Nancy (Noble) and Gordon Moore. Kathy was the mother to son Gregory Prytherch with wife Wendy of Tennessee; daughter Karyn Ryan with husband Mark of Maryland; and son Robert Prytherch of Florida. In addition to her children, she is survived by her brother Russell Moore of Michigan. Her grandchildren are Brandon Evans (Natalie), Ashley Allen (Josh), Caleb Prytherch (Bekah), Finnley Ryan, Isabel Ryan, Lily Ryan, Adelaide Ryan, and Laurel Ryan. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Landon and Kenley Evans, Hailey and Mia Allen, and Lorraine Kate Prytherch. Kathy was also proud of the cherished connections made as foster mom to Dena Divelbiss and as sister-in-law and aunt to her extended Prytherch family.
Kathy was a graduate of West Irondequoit High School and Rochester Business Institute after which she worked as a medical secretary and then a medical photographer before getting married and starting her family. Once her children were in school, Kathy began a hands-on technical career with IBM as one of the few female customer engineers in the Maryland / DC / Virginia region. In addition to maintaining a tricky balance of working and raising a family, she dedicated many hours at First Christian Church, Hagerstown as a member of the choir, as Elder, as a committee chair, and later in leadership roles as vice moderator and in other positions throughout the Disciples of Christ Capital Area. Upon an early retirement, she enjoyed having more time for cooking, baking, knitting, and traveling. She also pursued a new way of helping others as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a group care center and later as an in-home health aide before relocating to Gaithersburg to be closer to family. Kathy enjoyed spending time sharing food, fellowship, and playing games with her many friends and family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren; whether teaching them how to bake, listening to their stories, or sharing the rules of a new board game. Kathy was always grateful for connections made and considered herself truly blessed.
Her memorial service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 11 AM in the sanctuary of Grace United Methodist Church, 119 North Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
