Kent Alvin Smith

Kent Alvin Smith (69), passed away after a very brief illness- with his wife and all of his daughters and stepdaughters by his side. Kent was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joyleen and Douglas Smith and had 7 incredible siblings.

Survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Jean Smith, his four children: Blake Smith, Lauren Smith-Jaeschke (husband Cole), Meaghan Smith, and Allison Smith. Survived by his beloved stepchildren: Kimberly Showman (husband Zack), Michael Gotzens, and Erin Gotzens.

Beloved grandchildren who he cherished, Savannah Showman, Jaylen Hackey, Sadie Showman, Avery Jaeschke, Kali Kamfolt, and August Jaeschke. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his loving sister Su Smith, brother Wayne Smith (wife Connie Smith), and Allan Smith (wife Julie Smith), and brother Jim Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyleen and Douglas Smith, his two older brothers Douglas and Scott Smith, sister in law Susie Smith, and sister Sherrie Lynn Smith.

Dad loved fishing, bowling in a league, camping, sports (his Orioles and Redskins), caring for his fish tanks (congressional aquarium he loved) and especially the beach! He could bake in the sun for hours and get the best tan. He had fond memories growing up in Okinawa Japan, and in Hawaii. He majored in Marine Biology at the University of Utah. Kent went on to have a full career in construction. He was a simple man who enjoyed the simple joys in life! He loved his honey buns for breakfast, and especially his wife's PB&J at 12 every day. We are extremely proud of his sobriety for 30 years. He will be deeply missed and loved forever. We know he is so happy to be in heaven with his older brothers, sister, and parents. What a joyous reunion!

Friends and family are requested to wear Kent's favorite color, blue, to his services. We will gather to honor his beautiful life on Friday September 18, 2026 at DeVol Funeral home in Gaithersburg MD 10-11 am visitation, 11-12 pm service, followed by a graveside service at All Souls Cemetery in Germantown, MD.

We will gather at 3pm at Gentleman Jim's pizza (Dad's favorite) 18257 Flower Hill Way , Gaithersburg MD. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and support his family in this extremely difficult time. We thank you all deeply for your thoughts and prayers.
