The late Lawrence Amaah Lartey (Nee Amugi) was born on June 20, 1935 to the late James Nii Laate Nukpa Lartey of Gbese Division Nee We, Amartse We, Amasa We, descendant of the great Laakotey ‘’Aduawushi’’ mentioned in the Ga History and Gold Coast History - who poetically witnessed the Transatlantic Slave Trade, and the late Madam Lydia Aduorkor Adu who hailed from the Chieftain of Nene Azu Mate-Korle family of Manya Krobo. Raised by a chief fisherman and a trader and Kenkey maker, Lawrence inherited a profound work ethic and a deep connection to his heritage.

His life expanded in 1972 when he married Esther Yarteyfo Larkai, building a foundation of love and family. Lawrence brought that same steady devotion to his career, serving Georgetown University and Georgetown University Hospital for more than 30 years as a deeply respected and dedicated professional before retiring at Kaiser Permanente in 1999.
Mr. Lartey’s memory will be cherished by his three children: Aaron Nii Laate Lartey, Christabel Na Laale Lartey, and Rafael Laatei Lartey, alongside a large, loving network of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand nieces, and great-grand nephews.
