Lillian Rose Richmond Whalen passed away on Friday July 15, 2022 at age 22. Lily is survived by her parents, Patricia Richmond and John Whalen, her sister, Josie Whalen, and her grandmother, Monica Richmond. She will also be missed by her loving cousins, aunts, uncles and relatives throughout the US, Canada and Ireland.
Lily will always be known for her beautiful smile and her offbeat sense of humor. As a baby, she could be heard laughing to herself in her crib in the middle of the night. One of her pre-school classmates, when asked to describe what Lily looked like, quickly replied “Oh, Lily–she’s always smiling.” To her parents the happiest sound of all was Lily laughing together with her sister Josie, whatever they were doing.
Lily was never more herself than when she was moving. She was passionate about competitive gymnastics for several years. Later, she expressed herself through ballet and modern dance, continuing to dance in college. Most recently, she took up rock climbing with the same enthusiasm that she applied to all her pursuits.
As a Junior at the University of Vermont Lily was fascinated with philosophy and psychology – pondering the deepest thoughts about how we think, feel and exist.
She also was an avid movie buff, loved music, photography, and graphic design.
She cherished her dear friends, her family, and above anyone, her very best friend, her sister Josie.
She was a sweet, sensitive, caring person and the world is less without her. Our time together was too short, but we are so grateful for the light and happiness she brought to our lives.
Lily, we love you more than words can express.
