

Lois Stelzig Gallahan of Derwood, MD passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, John T. Gallahan. She is survived by her adoring seven children; John Gallahan III, David Gallahan, Daniel Gallahan (Ann), Laura Stevens (Robert), Ronald Gallahan (Molly), Nancy Currier (Michael) and Thomas P. Gallahan; proud grandmother of nine granddaughters and nine grandsons; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister JoAnn and brothers David and James
Lois Elaine Stelzig was born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota and raised in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was the third of nine children of Lewis and Olivia Stelzig. After college, Lois bravely moved to Washington DC to work at the Pentagon. Shortly after arriving, she met John Gallahan at a local Knights of Columbus social. They later married, in 1949. Lois was active in the Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Boys Scouts of America and always the local schools. She later returned to work at National Institute of Standards (NIST) and was recognized for her hard work and dedication at her retirement. After her retirement, Lois and John were able to travel the world and she continued to devote her time to her family, faith and community.
Services will be private and held at Gate of Heaven. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to The Alzheimer’s Association.
