

Lyn was the founder and director of the DC Youth Orchestra Program(DCYOP). DCYOP has posted the following on their website: “Remembered as “thefather of the American youth orchestra,” Lyn joined the DC public school system in1956 as a music teacher at Coolidge High School and, only four years later, launchedwhat became known as DCYOP with an initial orchestra of 60 students and threevolunteer teachers. He inspired tens of thousands of young people over the next fivedecades, encouraging students to grow and learn in community through music. Hetook DCYOP on over a dozen international tours, introducing DC-area youth to newcultures, people, and music, and giving them the opportunity to serve as ambassadorsfor the region and the country.”
