Margaret Tabitha Ford Davis was born to Marietta and Roland Ford in Washington DC, January 14th, 1927. In 1943, at the age of 16 she started her career in banking as President of the Washington Student’s Savings Bank, at McKinley High School. After graduation, she attended The American Institute of Banking and over the years worked as a bookkeeper, teller, bank branch manager, eventually becoming Assistant Vice President at Citizens Bank of Maryland until she retired in 1991.
Though she had a long and successful career in banking, Margaret’s great work in life was her family. In April 1948 she married “the boy next door”, William (Bill) Carlton Davis, Jr. Two years later they moved into their home on 23rd Avenue, Hyattsville, MD where they raised two children, Linda Lee and William Carlton III.
In 1967 Margaret became a Christian through the ministry of Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church. About a year later, her husband Bill dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. In 1971 he died, and the Church rallied around this single mother and her children. Over the years she found again and again the Lord was truly to her and her children “A father to the fatherless, a defender of the widows...” (Psalm 68:5). Though she lost her husband and her children their father, Linda and Billy gained many fathers, and Margaret, a “heavenly Husband” who would not and did not leave her as a forlorn widow nor her children as orphans.
In 1998 Margaret sold her home in Hyattsville and moved to the Asbury Retirement Community. She lived there until her death on April 11th, 2022. “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” (Psalm 116:15)
Margaret is survived by her daughter and five grandchildren.
