Marie Berangere DeMatteis Maser, also known as Bebe to her family, passed away on April 16, 2023, after bravely battling a long illness. She was surrounded by her loved ones as she left this world for a better place. Marie was born on October 29, 1945, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Alfredo and Georgette de Matteis. She was one of five siblings, including Reginald, Josiane, Patrice, and Michael. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Reginald and Patrice.
Marie and her daughter, Katherine, moved from Puerto Rico to Connecticut before finally settling in Washington D.C. where she became an active member of the Holy Trinity community. She dedicated her life to improving the lives of others through countless charitable initiatives that directly and indirectly benefited those in need. She was particularly passionate about her work with S.O.M.E, where she began as a volunteer and later served as a member of the Board. She became known in her Hillandale community for the many opportunities she created for her neighbors to also contribute.
Her support for orphanages in sister parishes in Haiti and active involvement with the MS Society were also noteworthy. The impact of her selfless work and kindness will be felt for years to come, and she will always be remembered fondly by those whose lives she touched.
Marie will also be remembered for her joy of living, her wit, her generosity, and her unwavering positivity in the face of adversity. She is survived by her loving daughter, Katherine, her sister, Josiane Delaplace, her brother, Michael De Matteis, her nieces, her nephews, and her grandnieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Marie's loving memory to S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat) (some.org).
