

Marina Relato Balaan, who was born in Oas, Albay, peacefully passed away on June 25, 2026, at 98 in Shady Grove, Maryland, with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marino Sr., parents, Placido Relato and Socorro Regalario, son, Marino Balaan Jr., siblings, Amalia Buiza, Lilia Remoto, Placido Jr., and Teodorico, Celestino, and Eloy.
Marina will be deeply missed by her children, Dr. Marvin (Dr. Susan Weber) and their children Atty. Charles, Dr. Emma, and Christopher; Marilyn Balcita (Ray); Marietta; Dr. Marlon (Dr. Linda); Marian Rose Adkins (Scott); Marie Liza Kanazawa (Tsuyoshi), and their daughter, Alissa, in Japan. She was a loving Lola to her grandchildren in Canada from the late Marino, Jr. (wife Riza), including Rachel with her husband Brandon Omotani and great-grandson Nicolas Jun; Mitchelle and her husband Kevin Feranil and great-grandchildren Mikaela and Karmelo; Racquel with her husband Mark Aquino and great-grandchildren Kassandra and Maika.
Surviving siblings in the Philippines include Teresa Baesa and Peter Relato. Marina had a fulfilling career as a church musician, history and physical education teacher, music educator, and choral conductor. After retiring from teaching, she joined her children in Maryland, where she continued to teach piano, enjoy crafting, and coach local Bicolanos in their festivities. She cherished celebrating her grandchildren’s achievements and welcoming great-grandchildren into the family. We thank the Lord for sustaining her in her late years, enjoying her family, music, and life in prayer.
Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg on Monday, June 29, 2026 from 6 to 8 pm. Friends may call at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 4101 Norbeck Road, Rockville, MD 20853 on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 for viewing from 11:00 am to 11:30 for viewing and a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:30 am.
