It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden death of Michael Patrick Mullally at age 59. Mike, a native Washingtonian, attended Blessed Sacrament School before moving to Pittsburgh, where he made lifelong friends and became an ardent Steelers fan.
Back in D.C., Mike was a starting quarterback and graduated from St. John’s College High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina, where many hijinks ensued.
During his 30 years of running and managing his company, Mullally Renovations, Mike amazed everyone with his creativity, craftsmanship, extensive knowledge of construction and repair, and genuine care for his clients, many of whom became friends.
Mike was known for his big heart, generosity, willingness to do anything for anyone, hilarious impressions, wit, and steadfast loyalty to the many friends he made wherever he went.
A lifelong lover of live music, Mike embraced the spirit of the grunge era and rarely missed an opportunity to see Pearl Jam, Green Day, Neil Young, and others, while proudly serving as the staunchest supporter of his son's band, Civic Duty.
Left to miss him are his wife and soulmate of 30 years, Kathy; his cherished son, Michael; and his much-loved brother, John, and sisters, Kelly, Mary (Tom) Riley, and Anne (Jon) LeSage. Mike was also beloved by his second families, the Ernst in-laws, the Dwyer cousins, and Uncle Jerry and Buettner cousins, as well as by many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends of son Michael, each of whom had their own special relationship with Uncle Mike or Mr. Mike.
In lieu of flowers, honor Mike’s memory by helping a friend or neighbor, or simply striking up a conversation, as Mike would have done. Donations may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention AFSP.
