Pamela Tyler Lindstrom died on March 10, after a year-long struggle with complications of a neuropathy that she contracted in 2009. She leaves behind her husband Richard, daughters Abigail Lindstrom and Tyler Christensen, and grandchildren Glen and Sammy Christensen.
Pam was born in Miami, and earned a master’s degree in marine biology at the University of Miami. She worked in biology at the University of California, San Diego, where she met Dick as a member of a congenial group of cooks and hikers. After their marriage in 1968 they spent a year in Bombay, where Abby was born. Since moving to Gaithersburg she was active in civic affairs, especially transportation and affordable housing. She earned a second master’s in economics at the University of Maryland. Pam led the creation of the Citizens’ Plan for the renovation of the Frederick Avenue corridor. She served on the Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission, attended the multinational 2018 “Housing for All” conference in Vienna as the sole American representative, and later arranged for a Viennese delegation to present their program to Montgomery County. For many years she worked as a referral resource for the Lord’s Table soup kitchen. She was a fine Southern cook, an enthusiastic gardener, and a friend to many.
Her friends are invited to gather between 2 and 4 pm on Friday, March 18 at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg. If you would like to memorialize her legacy, please consider donating to World Central Kitchen.
