

On Monday, April 11, 2022 Paul Thomas Hawes, Jr. of Silver Spring, MD formerly of Rockville, MD. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Ann Hawes; Loving father of Patricia A. Miller (Charles), Barbara L. Hawes, Suzanne M. Nalls (John) and the late Mary E. Hawes and Paul T. Hawes, III. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Paul (Tom) Hawes, Jr. was born on October 5, 1930, in Tuscarora, Maryland (Frederick) to Paul and Lottie Hawes. After he graduated from Bethesda Chevy Case High School, he entered the Naval Reserve and served until 1951 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served 3 campaigns in the Korean War where he attained the rank of Sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1954.
Tom a long-time parishioner of the Shrine of St. Jude’s parish in Rockville and was an active member of the Holy Name Society, and volunteered with the Teen Club. Tom was a 4th Degree Knight and a devoted member of the Color Guard in the Fraternal organization of the Knights of Columbus (Rosensteel) in Silver Spring, Maryland.
He was an applications engineer for specialized heating and cooling environments and worked for over 30 years for the Airflow Company in Frederick, Maryland until his retirement. For the past 7 years Tom lived in the retirement community of Leisure World where he enjoyed many social activities and the Woodworking club. He was a renowned woodworker among his family.
Tom loved his condo in Ocean City where he spent many hours surf fishing and always looked forward to a good golf game with his family. He mostly enjoyed the family beach vacations with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is remembered as a man who worked hard to provide for his family and who was always counted on for his honesty, integrity and unending giving and support to both family and friends.
Friends may call at the Shrine of St. Jude Catholic Church, 12701 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, MD on Wednesday April 20, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to Disabled American Veterans
