Robert Dale "Bob" Hortin was born July 25, 1938 and died May 18, 2024 following a brief illness. Bob attended the University of Missouri on an ROTC scholarship where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. After completing his U.S. Naval service, Bob was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency where he served nearly 27 years as a support officer. Bob was one of the last officers out of Vietnam after the fall of Saigon and one of the first Agency officers to serve in Germany following reunification. Given Bob's passion for U.S. history, it is fitting that he volunteered at Antietam National Battlefield nearly 25 years following his retirement from the CIA.
Bob was the middle child to Pauline and James Hortin. He was preceded in death by his two sisters Ruth and Rosalie. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 63 years, June; his daughter Tracey (Paul) Creamer; son Jeff (Teresa) Hortin and grandchildren Chris (Tori) Creamer, Emily Creamer, Jessica Hortin, Sarah Hortin and Allison Hortin.
A Memorial Service will be held at Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church, 610 South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD. 20877 on Wednesday May 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
