A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on February 5, 2025, at Epworth United Methodist Church, Gaithersburg, MD. A celebration of life will immediately follow in the church Fellowship Hall.
Bob was born on December 19, 1940, in Barton, MD, to the late Ellsworth “Red” and Elizabeth “Mid” Russell. He graduated from Valley High School in Lonaconing, MD, Class of 1958.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Russell, his sister, Elaine Alexander, and his brother, Ellsworth Russell. Bob is survived by his son, Bob Russell, Jr. (Debbie), daughter, Dawn Hurley (Ralph); three grandchildren, Tyler Russell, Foster Russell, and Ashley Appel (Brian); two great-grandchildren, Colton Appel and Austin Appel; sister, Peggy Connor (Dick) and brother, Richard Russell. In addition to many cherished nieces and nephews.
In 1964, Bob moved from Allegany County to Gaithersburg, MD, where he worked alongside his brother-in-law at Gaithersburg Lumber Company/Barrons, making lifelong friendships and working closely with his nephews Jack and Mike Alexander.
In 1994, Bob semi-retired and started his own business, Bob Russell Kitchen Specialist, allowing him to continue his passion for carpentry while enjoying his favorite pastime - golfing multiple times a week with his best friend, Jim Jarvis.
Bob was a legend in carpentry, creating awe-inspiring pieces, with his basement being his proudest project. It became a gathering place for family and friends, hosting birthdays, Christmas celebrations, and Super Bowl parties. Bob’s Bar was always open, welcoming good times and great company.
Bob never met a stranger - once you met him, you were part of his circle. He always saw the best in people, never their flaws. He loved his family and friends deeply and was truly one of a kind.
He will be dearly missed but forever remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought to everyone around him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude and Montgomery Hospice in memory of Bob.
The memorial service will be live streamed and recorded. The service can be viewed onZoom or YouTube on www.epworthunited.org/worshiponline
