Rodolfo “Rudy” Peralta Gamboa, age 66, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, after a courageous four-year battle with colorectal cancer. In his final days, he was surrounded by the love and care of his family and loved ones.
Rudy was born on June 24, 1959, in Banayoyo, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, to Bernardo and Catalina Gamboa. He graduated from Saint Joseph Institute (SJI) in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, in 1976. In the early 1980s, he immigrated to the United States (U.S.), settling in New York City to embark on an exciting chapter of his life.
In 1983, Rudy enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an MS3, serving on the back end of various naval ships. His naval career took him across the United States—from California to Washington to Louisiana—and around the world. One of his proudest accomplishments was his service in Operation Desert Shield/Storm (1990–91). Rudy’s excellence were further recognized with additional military honors and accolades, including the Good Conduct Medal (with 1 star), Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Southwest Asia Service Medal (with 2 campaign stars), the Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (with 1 star). After being honorably discharged from Bethesda, Maryland, in 1991, Rudy continued his service to the U.S. as a dedicated employee of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he worked as a mail carrier until his retirement in 2019.
Family was always Rudy’s greatest pride and joy. On April 24, 1996, he married Norminda Lebantino Gamboa, with whom he built a loving home and raised four children: his three sons, Jeffrey, Patrick, and Christopher, and his one and only daughter, Rachelle. Rudy’s devotion to his family reflected his caring and nurturing nature, and his leadership skills cultivated a supportive household. Rudy’s great demonstrations of loyalty and passion never went unnoticed. He loved traveling and creating lasting memories with his family.
Rudy’s carefree spirit and quirky sense of humor brightened every room he entered. He had a passion for sports, especially tennis, and never shied away from placing a bold, intuitive bet. Rudy cherished nature by taking strolls with his wife and feeding the squirrels that visit their home. He also never failed to enjoy a hot McDonald’s coffee with three creams and three packets of sugar while people-watching.
He will forever be remembered for his perseverance, his lighthearted charm, and the many ways he touched the lives of those around him. May God bless him with eternal peace in paradise, as his unfortunate suffering on Earth has ended.
Rudy, we are all truly appreciative of your presence and the pivotal role you have played in each of our lives. Your life is a blessing and blesses those around you.
