Rostam Khatchatourians

He was a dedicated & hard-working father to his two children Aris and Ani, husband to Anahit and grandfather to his grandsons Mikael and Alecko.

He was born in Gharadagh, Iran in the village of Arasbaran on May 15th, 1952, to his parents Hampartsoom and Tamar Khatchatourians. He was one of six siblings and the youngest.

At the age of 18, he served in the Iranian Military as a Sergeant under The Shah, later returning to university, where he later met his first wife Alvart whom he shares his children Aris and Ani. As a family, they later left Iran and moved to Greece before arriving to the US.

Armik was a master wood worker for forty plus years, operating his own business, developing a unique & distinct style to his craftsmanship. His hard work and dedication to his craft led him to work all over the area region from Maryland, Virginia, DC and even as far as Pennsylvania & New Jersey. Armik also pursued photography and captured many special moments for his family & others, even starting his own business.

For over 40+ years he was a volunteer for the Armenian Churches in the Washington DC area, serving the community for many occasions and events. He was notable figure among the community as member of the parish council and operated the church bookstore at St. Mary’s.

As a master woodworker, one of the pieces of wisdom he shared with his family was that “if you love what you do, then you will never work a day in your life.” This was evident, as many of his handmade pieces showcased his talent & love for his craft. His family will always remember his love for his craft and that he always looked forward to going to work every day. The work ethic and joy he put into his work is part of the legacy that he leaves behind for his family for generations to come.

Armik was truly the richest man in the world who was a very loving grandfather and enjoyed every minute of his time with his grandkids and all members of his family. Spending time with his family brought him the most joy in life, even in his declining health. Family was the most important thing in life for him, and he loved every moment of his time with all his loved ones until the very end.

A visitation will be held at St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church, 4125 Fessenden Street, NW, Washington, DC on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a service starting at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery, 11401 Brink Road, Germantown, MD.
