

Roy Mullen age 102, of Oakton, VA passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, surrounded by his family. A true centenarian, Roy lived a remarkable life marked by service to his country, devotion to his family, and a sharp wit. Born on May 3, 1924 in Vineland, NJ to Isaac T. and Annabelle Mullen he was one of 10 children. A member of the "Greatest Generation," Roy served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Following his service, Roy had a long and rewarding career with the federal government at the U.S Geological Survey in Arlington, VA, Menlo Park, CA and Reston, VA where he travelled all over the world, and was respected for his work ethic, integrity, and keen mind. While Associate Chief of the National Mapping Division, Roy received recognition of his significant contributions to the digital mapping of the Antarctica region by the naming of Mount Mullen in his honor. He was known for his prowess as Mr. fix-it, and enjoyed spending his retirement years playing golf, feeding and watching the many birds in his yard, and vacationing in beautiful Ogunquit, ME with family and friends. He is survived by his three daughters Holly Mullen of San Diego, CA, Heather Mullen (James Pattan) of Vienna, VA, Hillary DeVol (Robert DeVol) of Rockville, MD and four grandchildren, Lauren, James, Sarah and Michael DeVol. He was predeceased by his wife, Alyce Mullen and son, Hugh Mullen.
Roy’s ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery on a date forthcoming.
