Dee Metz was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, September 25, 2024 when she passed away suddenly from complications of cancer treatment. Dee was loved by so many and inspired by all who knew her. Dee was a force of nature that made a huge impact on everyone she met.
Dee was a life-long Washingtonian who graduated from the Academy of Holy Cross and the University of Maryland. She also received a Master’s Degree from John Hopkins University of Baltimore. Dee’s career path crossed both private and public endeavors, where she made significant and lasting contributions to her community that will not soon be forgotten. Dee’s personal and professional accolades and accomplishments are just too numerous to list but include her latest project of planning, coordination and implantation of the White Flint redevelopment. This project was recognized on Hometown Heros with local television.
Dee was a devout Irish Catholic and her faith was paramount in how she lived her life. She was so grateful for her Rosary Prayer group and the comfort they provided her. She embraced her Irish heritage, always ready with an Irish quip or blessing.
Dee is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Bob Metz. Bob was her greatest cheerleader and caregiver through her battle with cancer, never leaving her side. They were truly soulmates and cherished their time together. Dee is also survived by her children Scott (Lucy) Metz and Kelley (Marc) Perkins as well as her grandchildren Devin, Ryan and Hailey. Dee was 6th in a family of 9 children. She was loved and cherished by her surviving siblings Kathy (Don) Bohrer, Dick (Noreen) O’Boyle, Bill (Beth) Carl, Betsy (Gary) Thompson and Joanne (Pete Couste) Carl. She was “Aunt Dee” to over 50 nieces, nephews, and their children, and was godmother to several of them. Dee was preceded in death by her father William, her mother Sarah, and her sisters Mary, Martie and Eileen.
