

Born in Victorville, CA, she graduated from the University of Virginia where she earned a degree in Foreign Policy. After a stint on Capitol Hill, Sarah managed agricultural issues for the Biotechnology Industry Organization before moving to Missouri to work for the State Department of Agriculture. She directed the creation of the Missouri Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program and managed the Missouri Phase II Tobacco Settlement. She then served as Vice President at AgriLogic in Washington, DC, and was responsible for leading teams that developed new crop insurance policies for specialty crops.
Most recently, Sarah served as Vice President for Policy and Public Affairs at CoBank, where she worked for fifteen years. She focused on local food, urban agriculture, telehealth, water systems and rural broadband. She championed much of CoBank’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Sarah was long time member of the Board of Directors for DC Central Kitchen where she served as Chairwoman for six years and worked tirelessly to raise funds for the kitchen’s new location in southwest DC. She also served as Chairwoman of the Board for the Campus Kitchen Project and for fourteen years on the Board of the Bryan Square Homeowners Association.
She was known for some of her favorite sayings such as “There is no bad weather, just bad clothes,” “Eat your fruits and vegetables!” and, most importantly, “Life is too short to drink bad wine.”
Sarah is survived by her husband, Randy Tyree, Washington, DC. Also, her 101-year-old grandmother Millie Brown, Hampton, VA, her parents Lee and Sally Brown, Midlothian, VA, and her brother and sister-in-law Bill and Robin Brown, Alexandria, VA. She is also survived by her in-laws George and Betty Tyree, Blue Springs, MO, brothers and sisters in-law Tim and Dianne Tyree, Lake Lotawana, MO, and Kevin and Jackie Tyree, Overland Park, KS, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Sarah’s life will be held later. In tribute to Sarah, donations to DC Central Kitchen are encouraged.
