Stephen John Kreta of Clarksburg, MD passed away on August 9, 2026 after a long fight with congestive heart failure. As a testament to his character and strength, he was given five years to live in 2004. His family and friends are profoundly saddened by his passing.
Steve was born October 27, 1944 to Stephen and Josephine Kreta in Bridgeport Connecticut. Following an honorable career in the US Marines. Steve married Barbara Bradfield on June 24,1967. They started their life in Stratford Connecticut. Following the birth of their son, Stephen William Kreta, the family relocated to Maryland in 1972.
Steve began a successful career as an engineer in the Defense Industry including IBM & Lockheed Martin, as well as, other companies. He enjoyed working on projects around the house, and hanging around with his dogs; Sandy, Casey, and grand-puppy Salty.
He was an avid outdoorsman from his childhood until his passing. He loved hunting in Pennsylvania with friends, fishing in bays and oceans, and shooting wherever he could. He had multiple boats throughout his life and took pleasure in working on them. Mostly, he loved being around family and friends just talking and having a good time.
After retirement, Steve & Barbara spent as much time in Ocean City as possible. He loved hanging out on the dock and boating with an occasional nap on the beach. He spent a brief stint as a crab fisherman where he mastered crab traps and trout lines. He often referred to his beach friends as family. He always enjoyed a good meal and really liked spending lots of time talking afterwards.
He loved nothing more than spending time with his beloved grandson Nicholas. His pride in Nicholas was unmatched.
Survived by son, Steve, daughter in-law, Laura & grandson, Nicholas Kreta, as well as, in-laws, a niece, nephews, their spouses and their children, and many cousins in Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Mark Orthodox Church, 7124 River Rd, Bethesda, MD 20817, on Saturday August 22, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. with visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10 am.
