On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Thomas M. Boyce of Potomac, Maryland passed away following a nearly two and a half year battle with Primary CNS Lymphoma. Devoted husband of Anne Boyce; loving father of Kristen Ballintyn and her husband David, Elizabeth Fitzgerald and her husband Patrick, Mary Jo Boyce and her fiancé Kevin; proud grandfather of Bree, Caleb, Molly, Noah, and Jacob; dear brother of Robert Boyce and his wife Leslie, Steven Boyce and his wife Donna, and Catherine Peffley and her husband Bob. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive him.
Tom was born in Washington, D.C. to Robert Boyce and Catherine Burgdorf; the family subsequently moved to Wheaton, MD. Growing up in Wheaton, Tom pursued his varied interests. A member of the Wheaton High School wrestling team, he also participated in the school choir, tech crew, and electronics club.
A graduate of University of Maryland, University College, Tom started his career as a hardware specialist in the early days of computer mainframes. Eventually transitioning to software, he had a successful career in IT management, rising to Deputy Chief Information Officer at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Upon retiring from the government, Tom worked as a consultant for government contracts in the private sector.
Most importantly, Tom lived a life of service to his family and community. He was married to the love of his life, Anne, for 46 years. A devoted father, Tom passed on his love of reading to his daughters through nightly bedtime stories, performing different voices for each character. Tom coached softball, basketball, and soccer teams, served as President of the Parent Booster Club for the Marching Band, Mill Creek Towne Swim Assn Board member, and was present for every concert, game, or event. At family gatherings Tom could be found with an arm around his wife or one of his daughters and, later on, in the kitchen cleaning dishes. When he wasn’t busy traveling with his wife or playing with his grandchildren, he was an amateur golfer, an avid cyclist, and a voracious reader.
