As a very young child she survived World War II, including lack of such fundamentals as food, heat, and a stable schooling schedule, among others, under the watchful protective care of her parents. Lack of these resources in her early existence gave rise to her wonderful resourcefulness later in life.
Wilhelmina was the most friendly, giving and sincere person, who will be intensely missed by her family.
After completing her education in business school, her desire to widen her horizons led her to apply for and accept a position as assistant in a European style youth hostel in French-speaking Belgium, where she met her husband, Victor Schendeler, whom she later married and who shared her desire to travel.
Wilhelmina is multilingual. She spoke Dutch, German, French, and English. Together with her husband they traveled all over Europe, ending up in Germany, where both were employed as civilians at an American military base. This led to an invitation to emigrate to the United Sates. She held several positions as an administrative assistant at the University of Maryland, as well as an payroll administrator for a small construction company, eventually running her own business in tax preparation as Enrolled Agent.
Wilhelmina was married for 62 years and gave birth to her son, Errol Paul Schendeler, who resides in Dallas, Texas. Wilhelmina is the grandmother of Natalie Schendeler, who is currently attending Texas A&M, studying to become a medical registered nurse.
A celebration of the life of Wilhelmina is July 3 at 2:00 pm. If you are unable to attend, you may also join us via Zoom, CLICK HERE
