Born in Wuhan, China, Xiaoqing moved to ShenZhen at age 5 to be with her father. She inherited her father’s wit and her mother’s hard work. Her father passed away at an earlier age of her life, strengthening her strong mindset and independence. At an earlier age, she was already a competent reader because of her dad and would spend hours at the library. Her mother's devotion to her has given her a safe harbor to grow up. In response, she has earned many accolades and awards while she was still in elementary school through high school. She did this by prioritizing her sleep over studying. Incredible. While she was an incredibly bright student, she was also a very kind, friendly and caring person who forged forever friendships with Huilan, Hidy, HaoLiang and etc. She was nicknamed “frog” by her friend because of strong performance in breaststroke. She successfully got admitted to the finance department at Fudan University at Shanghai, which at the time only took the highest scoring students. There, she honed her skill in business principles and developed lasting friendships with YiFei, JiangYing, ChenWai and … Her love of food and nature has brought to many places in China together with her friends. Yet, she remained petite, just like her mom.
After finishing her bachelor degree, she then continued her graduate studies at Central Michigan University majored in economics and PhD at University of Pittsburgh in management information system.
At University of Pittsburgh, Xiaoqing actively participated in Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) as a board member. She was one of the leaders who helped organize a lot of activities, Chinese Lunar New Year events, Chinese traditional cultural events, and the Mooncake festival talent show. In particular, the Chinese Lunar New Year events had attendance of more than thousands people. She paid attention to details, executed plans accordingly, remained confident and calm even under intense pressure. She carried out these tasks at the same time maintaining good standing with busy university coursework. Her willingness to donate her time and energy to Chinese students showed her enthusiastic and incredible time management and organization skills. And there are lots of friends who love working with her.
Xiaoqing love of volleyball led her to meet with her future husband, YK. The first day she met him, she given him his now nickname. Through friend’s encouragement, they had grew closed. She opened her heart to YK on a starry night at Schenley park right before she was about to move to Maryland to become an assistant professor at University of Maryland. Lucky the poor guy.
Since then, Xiaoqing had been a good friend and lover to YK. Because of her, YK has a place he was longing for. Because of her, his heart was settled and firm. They have traveled together to places for fun, job interviews, conferences and work. They registered to be husband and wife one year later in a tiny apartment. Xiaoqing had been very sweet and caring for her husband. She often took advantage of him, using him as a guinea pig to prepare her teaching. They would spend hours at the UMD classroom, where Xiaoqing would lecture YK what she was about to teach the next few days.
She brought their first born, Donald, to the world a year later. Before that, she was preparing to be a good mother by reading lots of books and she indeed was a good mother to him. Donald always brought her a good smile. Donald always responds well to her gentle and sometimes cunning encouragement. And, because of her guidance, Donald was able to read at a very young age. He was able to pick things up quickly and excel. She is always very proud of Donald.
When Xiaoqing was pregnant with Emma, YK was in pain losing his father tragically. Xiaoqing gave him comfort and yet took care of the household. She was patient with him and also soothed her mother-in-law when she came to visit. Xiaoqing arranged for YK, his mom and Donald to be on a family trip to Florida and stayed behind. Xiaoqing gave birth to Emma in the summer and again brought joy to the family. Xiaoqing's methodological and un-tiredness way of doing things has helped manage household busy schedules. Emma is as stubborn as her dad; however, Xiaoqing always has a way with Emma, calming her down. Xiaoqing encouragement has led Emma to grow to be independent and hard working. Like her brother, she is a very good swimmer and Xiaoqing was very proud of Emma’s breaststroke. Xiaoqing was also happy to see Emma perform on the ice and draw.
During the brought up of Donald and Emma, Xiaoqing has met so many friends. Her smile, kindness, friendliness has created so many memories for many. Whether it was by the ski slope, camping, poolside as a judge, singing in the karaoke box, or hiking in some parks.
Professionally, Xiaoqing made significant contributions at University of Maryland, Capital One and FINRA, where she was highly respected for her hard work, empathy, and insight. She brought out the best in others, believing in second chances and guiding them with dedication. Her commitment to excellence was unwavering, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with her.
Xiaoqing possessed a rare and remarkable gift: the ability to discern the untapped potential in people and help them realize it. She recruited exceptional talent and believed in giving people second chances. She saw life through a lens of humility, empathy, and kindness. As a volunteer mentor to Asian American associates and new managers, she approached mentorship with dedication, guiding individuals through challenges, celebrating their victories, and offering supportive feedback along the way. Her capacity to inspire and empower those around her was truly extraordinary.
Xiaoqing once told her boss that when she starts on a project, it is imperative to see it through to completion with excellence. She set high standards for deliverables and even higher standards for herself, imparting upon us all the importance of doing work with passion and dedication.
Rest in peace,my beloved Xiaoqing. Your legacy of empathy, compassion, and excellence, both in the workplace and in your role as a loving mother, wife, daughter, and friend, will forever endure in our hearts.
