

Collis D. Sheffield, Jr. 67, of Port Wentworth, slipped into eternal rest Tuesday, January 8, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. The Richmond, Va. Native lived most of his life in Screven and Chatham Counties. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on old cars, tinkering and spending time with his family and friends. He could fix anything – his family and friends always said “If he can’t fix it, it ain’t broke”. The 1965 graduate of Groves High School traveled extensively throughout Alaska, where he was one of the first ice road truckers, backpacking, climbing waterfalls, fishing and hunting while stationed there in the army. He also volunteered many unselfish hours working with the Groves High School Band from 1991 till 1995. He was a member of Port Wentworth United Methodist Church and retired from P&L Transportation after 37 years of faithful service.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer, mother Lula E. Sheffield and father Collis D. Sheffield, Sr. and father-in-law Charles I. Daniels.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife and soul mate of 43 years Beth; sons Billy Sheffield of Bloomingdale and Dell Sheffield of Savannah; brothers Roy (Bonnie) Sheffield of Kershaw, SC, Tim (Chrease) Sheffield of Columbia, SC; sisters Corine (Billy) Wilkes of Bulloch Co., Lorine (Jerold) Roman of Eatonton; mother-in-law Frances Daniels of Port Wentworth, brother-and-sister-in-law Charles and Gail Daniels of Jordan, AR; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, special friends and beloved pets.
Visitation: 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, January 11, 2013 at Fairhaven Funeral Home & Crematory
Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Fairhaven Funeral Home & Crematory
Interment: Westside Memorial Gardens, immediately following funeral service.
