John was a member of Jackson Baptist Church in Sylvania and was retired from Chatham County where he was a Superintendent in the Public Works Department.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherrie McCorkle Smith.
Survivors are his sons, Tommy McCorkle (Sherry) and Daryl McCorkle (Stacey); 2 sisters, Carrie Adams and Margaret Teston; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the funeral home with a gathering from 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
