Josh Crawford Sowell

Josh Crawford Sowell (J.C.), 94, of Guyton, Ga.and formerly of Savannah, died June 15, 2015 at home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on April 5, 1921 in Screven County and was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Gladyce Ward Sowell, by his parents, Willie Sowell and Lollie Daughtry Sowell, his sister, Ella Mae Sowell Griffin, and a daughter, Cindy Spitler Carter.

He is a WWII Army veteran and was a lifelong member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, the George Balmer Sunday School Class. He spent 42 years as a locomotive engineer with Seaboard Coastline/CSX railroad and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers. He lived most of his life in Savannah but his heart was always on the farm, feeding livestock and planting a garden.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Susan Sowell Harbin (Floyd) of Richmond Hill and Jan Sowell Landing (Jerry) of Guyton Ga.;

Eight grandchildren, Leslie Dixon (Wayne) Statesboro, Ga., Matthew Harbin (Sarah) Asheville, N.C., Josh Westbrook (Emily) Gastonia, N.C., Jeffrey Donaldson (Melanie) Rincon, Ga., Jordan Harbin, Savannah, Ga., Allison Jackson (Bryan), Taylor Landing (Leslie) and Will Landing, all of Guyton Ga.; Nine great grandchildren, Nikki and Joshua Spitler, Statesboro, Ga., Gibson, Pearl and Lilly Harbin, Asheville, N.C., Jaden Donaldson, Rincon Ga., Raylan and Phoebe Kate Harbin, Savannah, Ga.

and Ellie Westbrook, Gastonia, N.C.; one great-great grandchild, Brantley Spitler, Statesboro, Ga. and several Brother and Sister-in-laws and a number of nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation Friday, June 18, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Crematory in Garden City. A Funeral Service will be Saturday, June 19 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. The graveside will be at Brooklet City Cemetery in Brooklet Georgia.
