She was born on August 10, 1932, in Des Moines, IA., a daughter of the late Paul and Edna Schmitt. She was married on January 9, 1954, in Marshalltown, IA, to Albert Lee Dost, who preceded her in death.
She was employed as a Registered Nurse, a Director of Nursing in the Ramsey Nursing Home in Des Moines, IA., and an RN in Sedalia, Mo. She volunteered at the Georgia Legal Services as an ombudsman and senior aide and trainer in Savannah, GA., after her retirement.
MaryAnn enjoyed arts and crafts, including quilting, sewing, painting, and jewelry-making. She loved playing Bingo and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include; one daughter, Patti Ann Dickey and her husband Steven of Savannah, GA.; one brother, Richard Schmitt and his wife Darlene of Pilot Grove, MO.; three sisters, Sister Donna Schmitt of Davenport, IA., Pauline Cunningham of Blackwater, MO., and Margaret Rielly and her husband Gary Jon of Bluffton, SC.; six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Eugene Dost; three brothers; Paul J. Schmitt, Gerald E. Schmitt and Robert Schmitt; two sisters, Yvonne M. Younger, and Constance M. Elliott; and three infant siblings.
A graveside service will be Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown, IA. A memorial dinner will be Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Golden Corral, 2004 W. Broadway, Sedalia, MO.
