

He was born in Dinwiddie, VA and attended schools there. He married his wife, Isabel Hotchkiss in 1942 and she lived at home while he was serving with US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He returned home and went to Virginia Tech and graduated in 1950. He took a job with American Cyanamid and lived with his family in Piney River, VA, and was transferred with the company to Savannah. He retired from American Cyanamid and went on to work at Georgia Ports Authority and Herty Foundation.
He was an avid golfer and played in the Sunshine Blitz and Senior Group at Bacon Park Golf, where he played until age 92. He was a member of the former Epworth United Methodist Church and a current member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and loved to sing in the choir at both. He was a volunteer with the Southside Fire Department for 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel T. Hotchkiss, as well as his four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Goodman Hotchkiss, his daughter, Vicki H. Garrett (Michael) of Pooler; his son, David W. Hotchkiss (Connie) of Bluffton, SC; one granddaughter, Erin G. Retter (Matthew); and two grandsons, Michael Garrett, Jr. (Shannon) and Dustin Hotchkiss. He is also survived by seven great grandsons, Tanner Adams, Jackson and Addison Garrett, Carter Hotchkiss, Gage, Gavin, and Cole Retter.
Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Fairhaven Funeral Home Garden City Chapel.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1:30 P.M. in the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home Garden City Chapel. Pastor Steve Meguiar of Aldersgate UMC will officiate and Pastor Gary Johnson of Woodlawn Baptist Church will assist.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey West on Dean Forest Road.
