Clifford Jess Langenfeld of Garden Grove, California passed away at the age of 85 on May 16, 2014. Clifford was born in Springfield, Illinois on July 11, 1928. Clifford is survived by his sons, Gerald Langenfeld of San Marcos, CA and Clifford Joseph Langenfeld of Chilcothe, IL, and his daughters Linda Milkie and Lisa Langenfeld of Garden Grove. Clifford was one of 10 children and is survived by his brothers Gary Langenfeld, Michael Langenfeld, Mark Langenfeld, and by his sisters Rose Marie Weymouth, and Theresa Ulrich. Clifford is also survived by grandchildren Mathew Langenfeld, Shawna Johnson, and Paul Janes; and great grandchildren Kyle Langenfeld, Audrey Johnson, Logan Johnson, Gracie Langenfeld, and Ricky Langenfeld. Clifford was married to Pearl Curtis Langenfeld for 56 years until her death in 2004.
Clifford grew up in Springfield, Illinois, moved to Decatur, Illinois, and married Pearl. He served in the National Guard in Illinois and then served as a police officer in Decatur, Illinois for 10 years. His training included a course at the FBI Academy, where he was awarded a certificate by Attorney General Robert Kennedy, with Director J. Edgar Hoover and President John F. Kennedy in attendance. Clifford and Pearl moved to Garden Grove in 1966 where Clifford worked at the Automobile Club of Southern California as a claims adjuster. He was active in the Catholic Church and became a Deacon at St. Polycarp’s Catholic Church of Stanton. Clifford was an avid bicyclist and rode more than 350 miles per week for many years, surviving a number of accidents, but always willing to get up.
