Eleanora Mary Hart was born and grew up in Manhattan, New York. Her parents were Polish immigrants. She enjoyed reading and going to museums, excelled in school, and graduated high school a semester early.
Eleanor worked at Macy’s as a switchboard operator and also as a bank teller on Wall Street while living in the city. She met her husband, Neil, on a blind date and they were married during WWII.
Her daughters Linda and Christine were both born in the Bronx and they all moved to Long Island before making the cross country journey to Orange County California in 1959. In 1964 she visited family and attended the New York World's Fair.
She worked in a variety of office positions for ERI and Bechtel for many years. Many of her coworkers became lifelong friends. She continued working after Neil passed away in 1978 and when she finally retired she began to spend her time volunteering.
Eleanor loved collecting books and fulfilled her dream of becoming a “librarian” through her volunteer work. Each week she volunteered at the Friends of the Library in Leisure World and in the book section at the Salvation Army. She donated many children’s books to Saint Michael Catholic School in Virginia. This collection of books is lovingly known as the Grandma Hart Library by the students.
Her family includes 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild: and their loving spouses, partners, extended family members, and many of her lifelong friends.
She will be remembered for her wit, creativity, and as a great friend, loving mother, and devoted wife.
A graveside service for Eleanora will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Cemetery, 8301 Talbert Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA 92647.
