great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 27, 2023. He was born to Ernest and
Helen Anderson in a tiny home in Red Oak, Iowa, on March 5, 1938. The Anderson family
relocated to California in the mid-50s’ where Andy graduated from Garden Grove High School
and then served in the Navy traveling the globe. Upon his honorable discharge in 1962, he went
on to earn a degree in Civil Engineering, graduating from the Operating Engineers and State of
California survey program in 1966. For over 40 years, Andy had a successful career as a Civil
Engineer, holding positions as Party Crew Chief and Senior Chairman, even working overseas
for Fluor Corporation, stationed in Saudi Arabia for 8 years. It was during his time working at
Arian & Willis that he met his lifelong friend, Jerry Nolan. Jerry and his wife Judy became family
to us all.
Andy was a thoughtful and generous man who loved his family and enjoyed his hobbies like
Fishing, watching football, his 1982 Corvette, racecars, trains, and airplanes. He married his first
wife Gerrie in 1964 in a lavish ceremony he likened to the movie, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”
Andy was a hard-working provider to his wife Gerrie and their two daughters, Heidi and Wendi.
After his first marriage ended in 1984, he went on to marry his second wife, Bonnie, and gained
three step-daughters, Karen, Pam, and Lisa, giving him even more children and grandchildren
to love.
He was a proud father and grandfather of all of his children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a great
storyteller and would brag about his family to everyone he talked to. He was very thoughtful and
seemed happiest when he could spoil his loved ones by taking them to special places, treating
them to visits to the Zoo, museums, amusement parks, eating out, and buying them gifts. When
grandkids needed rides places, He would gladly drop them off at the beach, school, or work.
Whether it was from his travels, or our family’s history, everything in his home had a story
behind it. He had an impeccable memory and never forgot a single detail. Carrying on the family
stories meant so much to him.
Andy will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a loving and caring man who will
forever be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unique sense of humor.
Preceding him in death were his parents Ernest C. Anderson and Helen Anderson; his first wife,
Geraldine Anderson, and his brother Norman Anderson.
Andy is survived by his daughters; Heidi Hower and Wendi Dougherty; grandchildren, Stacey
Gerhart, Jason and Alexandra Hower, Hollie Harris, Noah Anderson, Casey Carillo, and Zoe
Dougherty; great-grandchildren, Lucy and Adeline Gerhart, Athena Lily Harris, Theo, Legacy,
Ashton, and Delilah Anderson, and Lucas Carillo. He is also survived by his sisters, Carol
Knowles and Saundra Beneck; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dad~Grandpa Andy, we love and miss you very much. You will always be in our hearts,
thoughts, and prayers. See you in heaven. Until then…“Over and Out.
