He was born to Patricia and Eugene L. Fisher on April 2, 1956. Born curious, “little Gene” was often in trouble as a child for taking apart the household electronics. It got so bad that his father started scouring junk and thrift stores for appliances and radios so that he would leave the household items alone. From this, he taught himself the basics of electronics and road his bike to the local library to supplement his scientific education.
It was no surprise to his parents that Eugene went on to study engineering at Cal Poly Pomona. In his nearly 50 year engineering career, Eugene contributed countless advancements and inventions to the fields of aeronautics, medicine, optics, communications, particle physics, and national security. If you ever fly on a plane, ride a train, or stay in a hospital, it is very likely that one of Eugene’s devices or instruments will help you.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara (née Radgowski), his daughters April (Henny) and Laura (George), as well as many brothers and sisters-in-laws and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Karen.
Eugene was dedicated to providing for his family and enjoyed tinkering at home with his collection of vintage computers and electronics. He also loved astronomy, amateur radio, biology, reading, and all things sci-fi.
However, he spoke most fondly about the love he had for his wife, Barbara.
He passed on his own scientific curiosity to his youngest daughter, Laura, and his tenacity to his eldest daughter, April. To both of his daughters, he passed on his humor.
It is with great sadness that his family sends him off to be among the stars and galaxies that he adored.
