Alex was born on December 13, 1955 1o Alex Wilson Watson, Sr and Annie B. Watson, and was the fifth child of nine children. Alex was raised by God-fearing parents. He grew up in Compton, California, attended El Segundo Elementary School, Vanguard I High School and graduated from Centennial (Big 10) High School in 1974. From elementary school into high school, Alex played football and ran track, winning lots of trophies and ribbons.
Alex met his wife Shauntil Gibson at Centennial High. To their union were born two gorgeous children: their son Jayson Lamar Watson and their daughter Erika Shauntil Watson. Alex loved his children very much. He made sure that their well-being was his priority.
Alex was very easygoing and very comedic. He would always play jokes on his family and friends one time fooling one of his much younger sisters to eating a hot pepper and telling her it was a pickle Of course, he got in trouble.
Alex also loved playing the Congo drums. He would occasionally have night sessions in the family garage with his close friends.
Alex loved his family. Alex was sensitive, caring, and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He always professed the love of God and began reminding the younger generation of his family how important it is to read the bible and serve God.
Growing up on 137th street in Compton, Mark, one of Alex's childhood friend, and who preceded Alex in death, gave the guys nicknames. Mark named himself D-Maverick, Preston was named D-Fonze, Ray was named D-Blade, and Alex was named D-Cat because he was able to retrieve lost balls by quickly climbing trees or hopping the fence and getting back before the dogs got him. They grew up together like brothers, hanging out all night when they could, and occasionally showing their mischievous side.
In 2019, Alex suffered a stroke, and required nursing care. He lived in a skilled nursing home for several years. If you visited Alex, he would always talk about Jesus and how much he loved Him. How thankful he was that his parents raised him in a God-fearing home. Alex started reading his bible daily, listened to gospel stations and would always quote you a bible verse before you would leave.
On the morning of December 2, 2024, Alex went home to his Savior and Lord! He joins his father and mother, his sister Pat, and his brother Bruce, whom all preceded him in death.
Alex leaves to cherish memories, his children Jayson (Chrystina), and Erika.
