Janet DeEtte Hammer Wilson

Janet DeEtte Wilson (Hammer) age 95 of Gasport entered into rest on Friday, October 2, 2015 at her home. Born July 19, 1920 in North East, PA, Janet is the daughter of the late: Frank L. and Mary E. (Evans) Hammer.

Janet was a 1938 graduate of North East, PA High School. She continued her education at Bryant and Stratton School in Buffalo and worked at National Gypsum as a tele type operator until her marriage to Walter John Wilson Jr. They married November 8, 1941 at the First Presbyterian Church in North East, PA. Mr. Wilson died February 7, 1997. Janet and Walt lived in Lockport until 1949. From there they moved to Hartland and ran a poultry and fruit farm until 1972. Janet picked cherries and loved to climb the ladders.

Janet was a member of the Hartland United Methodist Church being president of the Women’s Society and Financial Secretary to the church, as well as serving in the many church events over the years. She was on the Hartland Board of Elections and wrote community news for the Union Sun and Journal.

Surviving Janet are her children: Elaine Mary Vincent Edmister (Allen) of Lockport, Marsha Ann Leipfert (John) of Binghamton, NY and William David Wilson (Debra) of Albion, NY. Sister-in-law of: Evelyn Hammer of North East, PA, Janet L. Wilson of E. Syracuse and the late Dorothy E. (J.L.) Dickinson. She was predeceased by a son-in-law: Charles Vincent. Janet is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Janet on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11:00 from the Hartland United Methodist Church, 8019 Ridge Road, Gasport, NY with Reverend Wayne West and Reverend Holly Coty officiating. Inurnment will be in Hartland Central Cemetery, Gasport, NY. Arrangements entrusted to the Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, Gasport, NY.
