Allen Eugene Monk, 88, of Gastonia went to his heavenly home in the early morning hours of Friday October 29, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Allen was born in Gastonia on September 23, 1933 to the late Alma (Barker) Monk and Lonnie Monk. Allen was a lifelong member of Victory Baptist church. He served many terms there as a deacon. Professionally, Allen worked in the textile industry until he retired in 2001. After he retired, he continued to work as a flower delivery person for Stowe’s Florist in Gastonia. Allen loved his job at Stowe’s Florist because it made people so happy. Many loved Allen and his family, friends and neighbors will all dearly miss him.
Allen leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 69 years, Wilma (Spivey) Monk of the home and his children, Ronald Monk and his wife Darlene, Buddy Monk and his wife Linda, Susan Nalley and Paul Monk and his wife Kammie. Allen’s legacy includes seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
A celebration of Allen’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday November 1, 2021 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 12:00 noon, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Luke Garden of Gaston Memorial Park. Reverend Janet DeWater of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Holly and Reverend Keith Martin of Victory Baptist Church in Gastonia will officiate. Clint Monk, Jamie Monk, Ron Monk, David Monk and members the Gaston County Emergency Medical Services Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
