Barbara Pauline “Polly” (Hoffman) Ward, 87, of Monroe died peacefully on Friday August 7th, 2020 at The Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Indian Trail. Polly was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter and grandmother. She cherished her Christian faith and was a long time member or Newell Baptist Church in Charlotte. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and all that knew and loved her.
Polly is the daughter of the late Lela (Gibson) and Julius Hoffman. Her husband, Lee Roy Ward, preceded her in death in 2011. Her brother, Manley Hoffman and Manley’s wife, Beachel Hoffman and their daughter, Polly’s niece, Vicki Hoffman also precede her in death.
Left to cherish their memories of Polly are her daughter, Susan (Ward) McMakin and her husband Patrick and son, Barry Ward and his significant other Jill Clark. Missing his grandmother is Jody Viverette, Jr. Sister, Jean Moore and her husband Bob and brother, Doug Hoffman and his wife Nancy are also left behind.
Missing their aunt are nieces Karen Goodwin and her husband Eric and their son Josh Goodwin and Angela Payne and her daughters Catherine Payne, Madison Payne and Oliva Payne. Polly’s nephews are Mike Mahaffey and his wife Terry and their daughters Taylor Mahaffey and Morgan Mahaffey and Steve Mahaffey.
The family wishes to extend a thank you to Lee Roy Ward’s niece Sherie Dawn Ballew and her daughter Melissa Belk.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 10, 2020 in the Singing Tower Garden of Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 10:00 AM, at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park.
