Betty Jane Porch Flynn 95, of Lake Wylie, formerly of Gastonia, passed away peacefully at her home on June 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was under the care of Providence Care Hospice at the time of her passing.
Betty was born in Gaston County on December 15, 1930, to the late John Lee Porch and Lucy Porch.
Betty was a devoted Christian and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was truly the matriarch of her family. Betty loved her family deeply and was always there for them with a listening ear, loving heart, and open arms. She had a deep love for music and especially loved to sing. Betty was a faithful member of her church choir for more than 30 years and was deeply devoted to her church. She served as a Sunday school teacher and was always willing to help with Vacation Bible School, bus ministry, homebound ministry, and many other church activities. Betty was also very talented at playing the piano. She could play almost any song by ear—if you hummed just a little bit of it, she could play it. In her younger years, Betty worked as a beautician and also owned a children’s daycare. She was a loving caregiver to her parents, her husband, her mother-in-law, and many friends. She was always ready to help anyone in need.
Betty loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. She asked that no sad songs be played at her funeral—only happy songs and songs of praise. She wanted her service to be a celebration, filled with joy rather than sorrow. That was our mom.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 74 years, Bill Flynn, and her great-grandson, Hunter Flynn.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Greg Flynn and wife Joy; Bruce Flynn and wife Janet; and Debbie (Flynn) Braddy and husband Scott Braddy. Also grieving her loss are her grandchildren, Michelle Sessoms and husband Shawn; Michael Flynn and wife Ginger; Amanda Kendrick; Daniel Flynn; Shanon Widener and husband Dirk; and Wayne Oakley.
Betty’s legacy also lives on through her 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054, US, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm.
