

Billie “Bebe” Sue (Barnett) Taylor, 88, of Gastonia passed away peacefully on Saturday October 31, 2020 at The Ivy in Gastonia. Billie was a long-time member of Lowell-Smyre United Methodist Church where she served as both the financial secretary and a Sunday School teacher. She was a matriarch of Lowell Shriners Lodge and a member of the Eastern Stars. Billie was the first female Alderman of Lowell in 1982. She owned the Dairy Bar in Lowell and she was a proud graduate of Gaston College in 1989. Billie retired from the City of Gastonia in 1999 and then she went to work for CVS where she retired in 2015. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Billie is wife of the late R. Douglas Taylor. She married him in 1951 and they were together until his death in 1999. Her son Allen Douglas Taylor preceded her in death. She is the daughter of the late Gertrude (Scoggins) and Chauncey Bunion Barnett. Her sisters Jacqueline Rowe, Pearl Barnett, Betty Robinson, Mary Frances Barnett and brothers C. B. Barnett, Jr. and Arnold “Duck” Barnett also preceded her in death.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter Rhonda (Taylor) Quinn and her husband Ronnie of Dallas, NC and son Scott Taylor and his wife Julie of York, SC. Her brother Roger Barnett of Caroleen NC. Missing their grandmother are Diana Young and her husband Brian of Charlotte NC, Jennifer Quinn of Dallas NC, Blair Quinn and his wife Lisa of Cherryville NC, Ben Taylor and Josh Taylor of York SC. Her great-grandchildren are, Alyssa Young, Dylan Young, Carter Black, Jake Quinn, Brody Quinn and Jackson Quinn. Also surviving Billie are her sisters-in-law Marsha (Friday) Taylor of Lowell NC and Shirley (Taylor) Hinson of Bolivia NC as well as loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Billie’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 1:00 PM, at the funeral home. The graveside committal will follow in the Masonic Garden at Gaston Memorial Park. Reverend Danielle Hammett will offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember Billie. Ben Taylor, Josh Taylor, Blair Quinn, and Brian Young will serve as pallbearers.
