Brayden Kyle Murphy, a beloved 16-year-old from Dallas, North Carolina, was gently called home to be with the Lord on July 11, 2025, following a courageous battle with aggressive brain cancer. He passed peacefully at home, embraced by the deep love of his family and cherished pets.
Born on January 17, 2009, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Brayden brought joy, light, and kindness into the lives of all who knew him. His heart was gentle, his spirit resilient, and his love for others unwavering—a true reflection of Christ’s love.
He is deeply missed by his devoted parents, Michael J. Murphy and Laura Jones Murphy; his loving siblings, Amber Ownbey (Wes), Jeremy Bumgardner (Summer), and Tyler Brannon; and a dear niece and nephews, Lily Bumgardner, Nolan Ownbey, and Josh Bumgardner. He was also blessed with caring grandparents, Ray Murphy of Denver, NC, and Linda Stiles of Gastonia, NC, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who stood faithfully by him with prayer and encouragement throughout his journey.
Brayden’s life was filled with compassion, joy, and unwavering faith. He found comfort in the companionship of his pets and the arms of a family who loved him beyond words. He was welcomed into eternal rest by his grandfather, Thomas B. Jones Jr., and his grandmother, Irene A. Murphy, who preceded him in death.
The family invites those who wish to honor Brayden’s life to make donations in his memory to the No Brainer Foundation, an organization close to his heart.
Brayden’s light continues to shine, and though he is no longer with us in the flesh, his spirit lives on—eternally whole, eternally loved, and forever in the presence of Jesus.
A visitation for Brayden will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054, followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 PM.
