He was born son of Andrew Jackson Horsley and Ethel Hammock Horsley on October 22,1945 in Dry Fork, VA. He attended Whitmell High School in Dry Fork, VA and received His GED from the US Armed Forces Training Center after he enlisted in 1965. He also received a certificate as an Electrical Power Plant operator/ Mechanic from the same institution at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He served in the Armed forces on active duty and active reserve from 1965-1971.Carlton received the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle) and the Good Conduct Medal.
After service he attended the V.A. Apprenticeship where he received Certificates as a Heavy Equipment Operator and Mechanic. He was employed by Thompson Arthur Paving Company as a Diesel Mechanic and later went on to start his own business, C.W. Horsley Landscaping and Backhoe Service, where he worked with several local contractors in the Gaston County area.
He loved the outdoors, gardening, growing his own food and loved hunting and fishing. He was an active member in the Sandy River Hunt Club of Callands, VA.
Carlton is survived by his partner in life, Rosie Jones; her son and daughter-in-Law, Jay Jones (Patricia); their two sons, Jacob and Ryan Jones all of Clover, SC;two biological children, Carlton Wayne Horsley Jr. (Tonya) of Pittsylvania County, VA and Tammie Horsley Carter (Steve) of Spring Garden, VA; five grandchildren, C.W. Horsley III (Jamie) of Samora, NC, Taylor Horsley Roberts (Eric) of Dry Fork, VA, Valerie M. Sadler of Winston-Salem, NC, Jason Hauser and Brittany Carter of Spring Garden, VA; three siblings, Frances L. Horsley and Benjamin “Ben” P. Horsley both of Dry Fork, VA; along with Sallie H. Blackwell of Danville, VA.
In addition to his parents, Carlton is preceded in passing by his two brothers, David and Irvin Horsley along with four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Willis (Lizzy), Clara H. Meadows, Mildred Cousins (Mickey) and Dorothy Horsley (Dot).
A Memorial Service/Celebration of Eternal Life will be held at the Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church Fellowship Hall on October 1, 2022.
His remains will be buried at the cemetery onsite with the Rev. Mike Hearp presiding.
